OH CRAP I MISSED 7ELEVEN DAY

I gotta fix this pronto. 7eleven said it's our birth-given right as human beings to have free slurpees one day a year and I'm not about to let my people down. Lounge bar, twenty minutes. Skip your shifts and tell your friends, cause we're having ✧slushies✧.

[OPEN LOG: Marui's in the lounge with two blenders, a bucket of ice, and a bunch of syrup and juice (replicator made, sorry) making low-tech slushies for who ever wants one. He's set up on a hijacked card table in front of the bar, because it turns out the bartender bots don't like people messing with their stuff. Who knew.

So come get yourself a slushie.]

Once the whole hubbub in the hallway had calmed down (if he didn't see it, he didn't have to report it!), Mizuki finally left his room to investigate what Marui had set up in the rec room.

Slushies were all well and good, but Mizuki had a discerning palate.

Feast your eyes on Marui's ultra classy slushie establishment! Yes, it is just Marui sitting around with blenders and ice sipping on a drink. But it's an iced drink, and that's awesome.

He waves Mizuki over, taking a gulp of his drink before setting it down. "Hey, new face! Come get a slushie!"

It didn't look too promising at first glance, but Mizuki magnanimously decided to give Marui's slushie stand a chance.

"Hello~" he greeted, eyeing the dubious-looking syrups. "Marui-san, right? Welcome to Yomi! I'm Mizuki. I manage safety affairs here."

"Safety, huh? You just missed two kids beating the crap out of each other, bet they could've used having you around." Marui was all smiles, he had no actual concern about whatever had just gone down in the hallway. That was a them problem.

"So Mizuki, you look like the kind of guy who appreciates a fruity drink. Am I right?"

From:

"Oh, what a shame," said Mizuki, with an equally bright smile. He had no desire to be caught up between those two dangerous men. Even SWS had strongly suggested any incidents involving them to be overlooked or worked around. He pulled up a chair to the sticky, wet table and sat down. "I do like fruit flavours! My family used to own a fruit orchard."

As usual, Mizuki got Marui's attention with the mention of food. "Yeah? We'd be nowhere without the farmers. What kind of fruit did you raise?"

Mizuki might have to wait a minute to answer-- at the same time, Marui dumped a new batch of ice into the blender, and brr brr ha ha blender loud.

Mizuki twitched at the noise, and politely waited for Marui's blending to be done before replying.

"We had a cherry orchard! With chickens, goats, and bees, as well," Mizuki said after a while. "Unfortunately we had to sell the land as the productivity declined with climate change."

Marui nodded sympathetically, ignoring Mizuki's reaction to the noise. "That sucks. Guess nowadays you need a billion dollar greenhouse to stay in the game, kinda cool you got to experience farm life before it disappeared though."

PLOP goes the ice into the cup, and Marui starts going through different coloured juices and syrups. "Anything you hate or are allergic to? Speak now or forever hold you peace."

"There are some microclimates where farming is still profitable..." Mizuki trailed off as he watched Marui rifle through the disturbing-looking syrups. "Um, I don't particularly like celery, but I doubt you'd be putting that in a slushie."

"You'd be surprised what health nuts will put in stuff." But nothing Marui picks up looks green, so Mizuki is safe for now. A little of this, a little of that, a bit of stirring and bam, done. Marui slides the drink across the sticky table. "Peach juice and pureed strawberry, enjoy."

It didn't look like actual peach or strawberry, but perhaps that couldn't be helped with replicator products.

Mizuki gingerly picked up the glass (sticky!!!) and took a sip.

"Ooh," he said, wincing. "Brain freeze."

Marui laughs, sipping one of the many drinks he's made himself today.

"Go slow, you'll enjoy it more."

From:

Mizuki had already been "going slow", but he took a more measured sip of his drink nonetheless.

It was...sweet. Sort of fruity? Mostly sweet. Still, an acceptable thirst-quencher.

"Thanks for the drink," he told Marui. "Do you have any plans for videos now that you're so far out and can't livestream? I understand you are a food vlogger."

Unfortunately, sweet was one of the few options to really cover up that replicator taste. The coolness of the ice luckily cut it down a little, but still very sugary. Such were the troubles of living in space.

"Yeah, I've got a deal with the UEA for a certain amount a month. Film them and edit them here, then send them out with the monthly data. I made a bunch before I left, so that'll keep them going for a while before the new ones arrive." All had been carefully thought out to keep his channel going in his absence.

"Oh that's interesting," said Mizuki, absent-mindedly drinking more of the not-great-but-not-bad-but-somehow-addictive slushie. "What sort of food videos will you make, you think?"

"Already got a lot of slushie footage, so that's one out of the way. I'm hoping to get 7eleven's attention and work something out for next year, that would be a huge sponsorship if I can land it." And plus, free slurpees. "Besides that it depends on what agri and biology come up with. I heard sandworm isn't too bad, besides the hallucinogenic thing."

"Surely you can't be thinking of cooking something hallucinogenic," exclaimed Mizuki. "Maybe eggs, or...the strange mutant chickens, if it comes to that..."

Marui waved it off like it was nothing, because after the amount of stunts he'd pulled for youtube it really was.

"I'll get the toxicology report first to make sure it doesn't kill me, no worries. It can't be that bad if whoever tried it first lived to tell about it."

"But it's hallucinogenic!" Mizuki insisted. It would be like those irresponsible Rainbow youth filming viral videos of themselves eating weed brownies or shrooms. "Surely that can't be UEA approved."

Marui shrugged. "So I slap a disclaimer on it. It'll make a good video."

From:

Mizuki would just have to make sure all relevant safety protocols were followed, when the time came. Honestly, it was influencers of Marui's ilk and their emulators that caused the most trouble for SWS's safety officers. Climbing towers, taking selfies with dangerous fauna, dangling upside down from helicopters...

He kept a polite smile though, and tried to change the topic. "... have you met Tachibana-san yet? Perhaps you could do a collaborative video."

What to do mean, Mizuki. All of those things are awesome and totally safe. Hashtag jump off a bridge with your friend challenge.

"Hmm. You think he'd be my trip-sitter?"

Well, it'd certainly be safer with Tachibana around, and perhaps he could talk Marui out of it...

"Why not? I think it's a good idea," Mizuki agreed.

From:

Marui nods to himself, running logistics in his head.

"Yeah, that'll work. Good input Mizuki, you got this safety thing down."

From:

“…Right! Happy to help!” Mizuki frantically made a mental note to warn Dr. Tachibana.

From:

I know that you did the video a few years ago about your hacks to beat brain freeze, have you found any new secrets since then? What is your current year go to solution?

From:

My current fix is to just not get it in the first place.

From:

So make everything disappointing enough that you don't feel the need to drink it as fast as possible?

Fair.

Hey. I've never made a disappointing drink in my life.

Tezuka was on his way back to his room from the gym when the message about slushies popped up on his comms feed. The ice seemed tempt him as a way to cool down. Maybe he would be able to get a matcha slushie?
He rerouted and made his way to the rec room, hoping for a nice cold slushie.

Luckily for Tezuka, the slushie table has become a day long event because Marui has literally nothing else to do with his time. Every new face is welcomed over to it, and Tezuka is no exception.

"Hey, come get a drink! Doesn't taste like algae, promise."

From:

Tezuka walked into the rec room as he heard someone call out to him about getting a slushie. He glanced at them and nodded, walking over towards them.
"Hello. Is it possible for you to make a matcha slushie?"

From:

"You got it, Boss. Watch the blender, I'll be right back." Pressing the button to chop the ice, Marui runs off down the hall to the mess hall, only to reappear a minute or two later with a cup of mysterious green sludge. Then it's a matter of adding the sludge to the crushed ice in the blender, adding a few more things from his table, running the blender a few more seconds and voila, matcha slushie. He dumps a bit into his own cup, giving it a taste test before pouring a cup for Tezuka and passing it over.

"Not half-bad for a first try. It'd taste real good with a shot of vanilla rum, bartender's recommendation."

Tezuka just managed to nod before Marui sped away to get whatever he was holding in that mug.
He accepted the glass and looked at it, blinking. "Is this really matcha? I could've brought you some of you needed it."

"Oh, you've got real stuff?" Marui stashes that information away for later-- always important to know who had ingredients around the base. "It's not real, but I'm pretty good with a replicator, trust me." He'd spent a good 6 months fooling around with a replicator at home, and has learned how to order in ways to maximize the AI's potential and minimize algal taste, and the current drink, while a discerning palette would still be able to tell the difference, was miles ahead of what the replicator had been putting out before Marui got there.

"Yes, I managed to bring with me whatever I deemed essential. Also, I was in charge of bringing a ship full of cheese to base." he replied. Maybe Marui could make some use of the cheese.
Tezuka took a wary sip of the slushie and his lips automatically curved up slightly. This was quite a lovely refreshment — he hadn't expected the replicator to make this above average blend of tea. He took another sip. And then another. He stood there, clutching the tall cup in his hands and sipping the green ice drink through his straw. Yum.

"Cheese, you say." At the risk of sounding like a mouse, Marui's interest is piqued. "What kinds?" Hopefully it was more than just boring cheddar.

He couldn't help but grin at his obvious success with the drink. "What do you think? I'm a genius, right?"

"I believe there were around ten to twelve different types. And it was quite a large shipment as well. There might have been an error in the request, but I do not think anyone has complained yet." He did not feel the need to mention his own personal stash of cheese, he believed that he should keep it for himself when the base runs low on cheese.

Tezuka nodded. "Quite refreshing. Would you like it if I brought you a bit of matcha to make me another one? You can make one for yourself too." he replied. He was ready to jog to his room to get some tea out for Marui, he needed another matcha slushie right now.

Marui looks like he's seen god, and god is ten to twelve different types of cheese.

He's brought to by Tezuka's request. "Huh? Yeah, sure, go get it. I'm not going anywhere." He's never going to say no to nice ingredients in this place.

"...Are you alright, Marui-san?" Tezuka had never seen someone so awestruck by him having to stare how many types of cheese he had to bring with him in the drop.

"Alright, I'll be right back." he continued, slightly more excited than he was originally for the idea of a second matcha slushie. Tezuka swiftly walked out of the rec room and towards his room with only one thing on his mind — m a t c h a.

Godspeed, Tezuka. Meanwhile Marui will be blending up more ice for the base, and mentally going over all the different things he can cook with that cheese.

As soon as he entered his room, he threw his gym bag onto his bed and immediately moved towards the closet where he kept his stash of matcha. He scooped a few servings of the bitter tea into the tea cup he had, put a lid on the cup and kept the box of tea back in his closet. He then sped out of his room at a pace very close to jogging, if not running, and made his way back to the food blogger.

"Hey, you made good time." Marui is ready when Tezuka gets back, and it's very clear that this dude REALLY wants another slushie, (but really, who can blame him.) He takes the cup from Tezuka, mixing the goods with some hot water to release the flavour before cooling the mixture with a few ice cubes. Then it was business as usual, adding the matcha to the ice, along with the tiniest bit of clear syrup.

The resulting drink is much more subtle and true to the matcha flavour than the last one, as Marui didn't have to add a bunch of extras to cover up the algal after taste. He passes the drink to Tezuka-- enjoy, my dude.

Tezuka thanks Marui and takes the second slushie from him, immediately sipping on it with the straw. He felt a wave of bliss wash over him, as if all of the universe's trivial issues didn't exist anymore. So refreshing. Sip sip.

That was the face of a satisfied customer. Marui takes a sip of his own slushie, and yeah, not bad.

"Bunta, you've outdone yourself once again."
